Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province

The Ho Tram Strip is located on the coastline of beautiful Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in southeast Vietnam. The province capital, Vung Tau City, is a primary gateway for waterway traffic between Ho Chi Minh City and the world. Located just 127 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the closest developed coastal area and its rich diversity of landscapes and over 100 kilometres of breathtaking coastline are easily accessible to domestic and international tourists.

Every year, millions of travellers flock to the provincial beaches – especially those near Vung Tau City such as Bai Sau (“Back Beach”) and Bai Truoc (“Front Beach”) – for some of the region's best swimming.  Due to their proximity to Vietnam’s largest economic hub, beaches in Ba Ria-Vung Tau are among the most popular in Vietnam, and less than an hour’s drive from the Ho Tram Strip. Ho Tram itself is also bordered by swathes of untouched beaches fringing the South China Sea.
The climate in Ba Ria-Vung Tau is typically sunny and dry, which accentuates its popularity as a holiday destination for tourists or weekenders from Ho Chi Minh City. There is no winter in Vung Tau, and with an average annual temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, resorts can remain active throughout the year.

Vung Tau’s economy

Vung Tau’s GDP growth rate has been high and stable, and in 2009, Vung Tau achieved a GDP growth rate of approximately 10.83%. This figure is also positive compared to the average 7.5% – 8% GDP growth rate of Vietnam’s southeast.

Approximately 2,000 residential units are expected to complete construction in the period 2010-2013, which will stimulate the development of more amenities and a greater influx of visitors and residents.
Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the country’s leading FDI destination, attracting the most FDI of provinces nationwide of around US$ 5.1 billion. As of 2009, total FDI in the service and tourism sector accounted for over 50% of the total FDI capital of the province.

The renovation of the 72-kilometre Highway 51 connected Bien Hoa to Vung Tau, slated for completion in the near future, will create an eight-lane link and significantly shorten the travel time between Vung Tau and neighbouring provinces, especially Ho Chi Minh City.

The first phase of the Tan Thanh-Cai Mep seaport project is now complete and will be a key facilitator of development of transportation and civil infrastructure in Ba Ria-Vung Tau in the near future.

The planned Vung Tau-Bien Hoa Railway will also make travel even more convenient for passengers travelling between the key southern economic areas.
